ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Most people are in search of ways to feel better and one couple said they believed the answer lies hundreds of feet below the ground. The couple filled their home with salt rock crystal lamps. Are they on to something or just wasting money?

A search for salt crystal lamps on the internet returns a million and a half websites, most of them selling the devices.

What's much harder to find is scientific evidence on whether the lamps work, but that is not stopping thousands of people like the Hunts from giving them a try.

Robert and Pat Hunt bought their lamps at Neff's Store in Arizona.

The lamps are made out of hollowed out chunks of salt. According to the Neff Store, salt crystal lamps work as a natural air purifier to kill bacteria and remove dust, allergens, smoke, odors and mold spores from the air.

The Neff's Store says the salt crystal lamps work by producing negative ions, similar to man-made ionizers.

While most people are skeptical about the lamps' effectiveness, the Hunts said they'll never be without the salt crystal lamps again.

A couple of health food stores in the Atlanta area sell the lamps. The lamps run from about $10 for a tea light-sized candle holder to $150 for a large crystal lamp.
